La séance dédiée aux évolutionnismes se focalisera sur les textes de Lewis Morgan (Ancient Society, Systems of Consanguinity and Affinity), Leslie White (The Science of Culture), Elman Service (Evolution and Culture, Primitive Social Organization) et Morton Fried (The Evolution of Political Society, On the Concept of Tribe and Tribal Society), tout en intégrant certains aspects des travaux de Tylor, Frazer et Murdock et de la division technique du travail d'enquête à laquelle s'adosse ce courant.
